Isaac Daniel Aud was born September 7, 2009 at 6:01 p.m. shocking and surprising everyone! Isaac was not expected to arrive until October 5. I woke up that morning and was pretty sure that my water had broken. Being this is our first baby I was not quite sure--actually I think honestly I was in denial because it was too soon and we were not ready! As we woke up, I tried to call the doctor to see what they thought I should do, but being that it was Labor Day there was no answer. I decided that it would be important that I eat some breakfast and take a shower before we headed to the hospital just to be checked and safe. Dan did the same. We then proceeded to wander around the house aimlessly wondering what we should pack and take. I still wasn't feeling any contractions or anything, but we wanted to be ready in case something was happening and they decided to keep us. We both went to the hospital thinking we would be there for a little bit and sent home.
Around 11 we arrived at the hospital and checked in. The nurse did a few tests and they were inconclusive. She called the doctor who decided that he would go ahead and admit us. I kindly asked the nurse, "What do you mean by admit? Monitor us for a few hours and go from there?" She kindly responded, "You're not leaving the hospital without a baby." Our jaws hit the floor! Wow! What a surprise!
Ready or Not!
We headed to the delivery room at 12 p.m. and the nurses prepared us for a long day ahead. To everyone's surprise Isaac started coming much faster than expected! Within an hour, I was having very strong contractions and they were making me sick. I asked for my epidural--still thinking I was not very far along in the whole process. After that was over, the nurse checked and I was ready to push. She called the doctor (who was at the other hospital) and he said to get started he'd be on his way. The rest as they say is history!
Isaac arrived at 6:01 pm weighing 7 lbs. 9 oz. He measured 18 3/4 in. long. Because he was so early they had the NICU nurses standing by and really checked him over to make sure all was well with his lungs and there were no other problems. Thankfully he was very healthy and did not have to go to the NICU. What a blessing!
